You’ll probably recognize a 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 on the roads and highways of Yellowknife and the surrounding area when you see one, but there’s a strong possibility it will be different from any other one you’ll come across. That’s because, with nine trim levels, three beds, three cabs, four engines, and almost unlimited options for customization, your new 2024 Silverado 1500 can be as individual as you are and tailored to suit almost any conceivable application.
We expect full-size trucks to look a certain way, but the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado still manages to have a style all its own. Every trim level has its own unique styling cues, but every model exudes power and presence with purposeful exterior styling that gives you a good idea of what this mighty truck is capable of handling.
The nine trim levels you can choose from in the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 lineup start with the entry-level, fleet-focused WT (Work truck). However, retail shoppers will probably gravitate to the Custom, Custom Trail Boss, LT, RST, LT Trail Boss, ZR2, LTZ, or the magnificent, top-of-the-line High Country. Those nine trim levels are mostly standard rear-wheel-drive models, but the Custom Trail Boss, LT Trail Boss, and ZR2 are not available in a rear-drive format as they get four-wheel-drive as part of their standard specification.
The 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 is available with your choice of four different powerplants, and there isn’t a weak one among them. The standard could sound a little inadequate to some as an inline-four in a truck of these proportions. However, the 2.7-litre turbo-four is anything but inadequate as it produces an impressive 310 horsepower and 430 lb.-ft., which is almost as much torque as the biggest unit available for the Silverado 1500. If you still want something with a more significant displacement, a 5.3-litre V-8 is also available, putting out 355 horsepower and 383 lb.-ft. of torque.
If regular towing is high on your agenda, you might gravitate to the 3.0-litre inline-six turbodiesel that develops 277 horsepower and 460 lb.-ft. of torque. The largest and most powerful unit on offer is a 6.2-litre gas V-8 that boasts 420 horsepower and 460 lb.-ft. of torque. Regardless of trim level, engine, or drivetrain, the power gets sent to the wheels through a 10-speed automatic transmission after Chevrolet discontinued the eight-speed unit for the 2024 model year. For 2024, the ZR2 is now available with the 3.0-litre Duramax diesel engine.
The maximum towing capacity of the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 is an impressive 6,033 kg, you can haul up to 1,030 kg, and you can also configure this mighty truck with the off-road capability for negotiating the most challenging terrain. However, not every driver has the highest levels of skill and experience, and that’s why Chevrolet offers so much advanced technology to help with towing, hauling, and driving off-road.
The ZR2 is the champion of hardcore off-roading. The generous standard specification of the ZR2 includes four-wheel-drive, the 1500’s most potent powerplant, Multimatic DSSV dampers, front and rear locking differentials, and an enhanced 2-speed transfer case with Terrain Mode. You can go even further with the available Bison Package for even greater off-road capability and style. To make towing more manageable, the Silverado is available with HD Surround Vision, Hitch Guidance with Hitch View, Trailer Side Blind Zone Alert, Auxiliary Trailer and Bed View cameras, and plenty more. Every model is also available with the Multi-Flex Tailgate, which has six different functions to simplify loading, unloading, and accessing whatever cargo you have in the bed. Enhancements for the new model year include a Midnight Edition of the High Country trim, and wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay for the WT trim.
The 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 is one of the biggest-selling vehicles in North America, and it isn’t difficult to see why. Whatever you want or need a truck to achieve, there’s a Silverado 1500 configuration that has it covered.
