Despite what some commentators predicted a few years ago, the people of Yellowknife know that sometimes only a full-size, body-on-frame SUV is up to the job, and they’re not going away anytime soon. And if you want the biggest, most versatile, and most capable vehicle in the segment, look no further than the 2023 Chevrolet Suburban. With a flexible interior that seats up to nine in considerable comfort, huge cargo volume, and the towing capacity of a full-size pickup truck, the Suburban is the SUV for all seasons and occasions.
The 2023 Chevrolet Suburban is available in many configurations to suit a broad spectrum of owners and drivers with different tastes and requirements. The entry-level Suburban LS is a fleet-focused yet generously equipped starting point for the lineup. However, most retail shoppers will likely start with the LT trim level or higher. The LT represents a significant specification upgrade, with a larger infotainment touchscreen, a 12-inch diagonal colour Driver Information Centre, a Bose nine-speaker audio system, and more.
If you want an even better-equipped Suburban than the LT, the rest of the family includes the RST, Z71, Premier, and range-topping High Country trim levels. There’s a lot of character and diversity in the 2023 Suburban family. The RST introduces a sporty slant with blacked-out exterior trim and 22-inch alloy wheels. The Z71 is a more off-road-focused model with 20-inch wheels wrapped with all-terrain tires, underbody skid plates, a two-speed transfer case, and standard four-wheel drive. And if you want genuine luxury and a raft of the latest technology, the High Country delivers all that and more.
Unless you go all the way to the top-of-the-range High Country trim level, the 2023 Suburban’s standard engine is Chevy’s tried-and-tested 5.3-liter V-8 that puts out 355 horsepower and 383 lb.-ft. of torque. Most shoppers will find the standard more than adequate, and the ten-speed automatic that all models feature makes driving a genuine pleasure. However, it wouldn’t be right to place an order before checking out the other two powerplant options available.
A 6.2-liter gas V-8 is one of those options, and this one develops 420 horsepower and 460 lb.-ft. of torque. The 6.2-liter V-8 engine is available for the RST, Z71, and Premier trim levels, and it’s the standard unit under the hood of the High Country. Apart from the Z71 trim level, every other Suburban is also available with a 3.0-liter inline-six turbodiesel that provides the Suburban with 277 horsepower and 460 lb.-ft. of torque.
Advanced technology runs throughout every system of the 2023 Chevrolet Suburban, and this is easily the most advanced version of the mighty Chevy to date. The Suburban is now available with adaptive dampers and an adjustable air suspension, which allows the Suburban’s ride height to be automatically and manually lowered or raised for improved passenger comfort, accessibility, aerodynamics, and ground clearance.
This year also sees GM’s Super Cruise available for Premier and High Country versions of the 2023 Suburban. Super Cruise leverages a collection of advanced technologies to provide the ease and convenience of hands-free driving, even while changing lanes, thanks to Lane Change on Demand. All models from the LT upwards also get a standard 12-inch digital Driver Information Centre that allows drivers to personalize the display’s vehicle features, including warning messages and vehicle information.
The 2023 Chevrolet Suburban might not be able to squeeze into the tightest parking spaces or get you to the next town on a shot glass of fuel, but it’s hard to think of much else it can’t handle.
