Head-turning style

If you can imagine yourself driving around Yellowknife in a new 2023 Chevrolet Blazer, you’re probably not someone trying to stay below the radar. If being able to go about your business in relative anonymity is an essential factor for your new ride, you’ll probably want to look elsewhere in the current Chevy lineup. For the 2023 model year, the front and rear fascias of the Blazer get a modest refresh. The LED headlights, daytime running lights, and taillights have been thinned and narrowed, and a new front grille keeps things looking nice and fresh for the new model year. If Chevy’s performance cars are where your heart is, but you need something more practical, the 2023 Chevrolet Blazer is a sensational choice that won’t disappoint.

Different Blazers designed to fit

There are four excellent trim levels to choose from in the 2023 Chevrolet Blazer family, and there are two engine options and a choice of front- and all-wheel-drive. The base 2023 Blazer LT has a standard 2.0-litre turbo-four engine under the hood that’s certainly worth considering. You can upgrade the LT with the additional capability of all-wheel drive, and the larger of the two engines is also available at this entry-level. However, if you want an LT with the V-6 engine option, you can’t have it in a front-drive format.

The three trim levels most likely to interest retail shoppers are the True North, RS, and top-of-the-range Premier, all of which feature the 3.6-litre V-6 engine and all-wheel drive as part of their standard specification. The impressive 3.6-litre V-6 puts out 308 horsepower and 270 lb.-ft. of torque, but the turbo-four also impresses with 228 horsepower and 258 lb.-ft. of small-displacement torque. Regardless of engine, drivetrain, or trim level, every version of the 2023 Chevy Blazer comes with a nine-speed automatic transmission.

A more-than-capable performer

2023 Chevrolet Blazer powertrains and performance

You can configure the 2023 Chevrolet Blazer to satisfy your specific requirements, although some differences can appear quite subtle when you see them on the specification sheet. For example, when equipped with the turbo-four engine, the AWD system is a reasonably basic and reactive unit that couples the rear axle when the system senses a front wheel slip. Alternatively, the system you get with the RS version of the new Blazer features a twin-clutch rear differential for distributing torque between the rear wheels to deliver extra grip and enhanced handling.

A Sport drive mode can be activated by flipping a switch on the console in the Blazer RS, which encourages the nine-speed automatic transmission to hold low gears longer, dig deeper into the power band, and changes the steering feel for a little more heft. Even the turbo-four-equipped models can get you from 0 to 60 mph in around eight seconds. Of course, the V-6 is even more impressive, with 60 mph arriving in around six seconds. Turbo-four models can tow up to 1,588 kg with the available trailering package, but the V-6 engine ups the towing ante to an impressive 2,041 kg.

Standard generosity

Every 2023 Blazer features the Chevrolet Safety Assist package, which includes Automatic Emergency Braking, Front Pedestrian Braking, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, Following Distance Indicator, Forward Collision Alert, and IntelliBeam automatic high beams.

If you take the safety of your vehicle, your passengers, and yourself even more seriously, a Safety Plus Package is also available for the RS and Premier trim levels. The package adds wireless charging, HD Surround Vision, a rear camera mirror, Adaptive Cruise Control, Enhanced Automatic Emergency Braking, Safety Alert Seat, and LED headlamps.

Most of the interior remains familiar, although a larger 10.0-inch touchscreen for the infotainment system is now standard across the lineup. Even the most affordable version of the new Blazer gets standard bucket seats with an 8-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, and rear legroom is impressively generous at almost 40-inches.
