It’s not easy to stand out from the crowd and make that big impression if you’re competing in the exceptionally strong full-size, light-duty pickup segment at the moment, but the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 Limited has all the style, class, and presence that’s required to do just that. Lots of pickup trucks can tow big trailers and haul heavy loads, but none will turn heads around Yellowknife the way the Sierra 1500 Limited will at every level or make you look back with an admiring glance every time you walk away from it.
You have either five or six different trim levels to choose from with the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 Limited, and whether you get five or six to choose from depends on the drivetrain you prefer. If a rear-wheel-drive truck is your preference then the Sierra 1500 Limited comes in Pro, SLE, Elevation, SLT and Denali trim levels. On the other hand, if it’s a four-wheel-drive truck you’re looking for you then also get the option of an extra trim in the shape of the off-road-focused AT4 that walks the walk just as well as its styling talks the talk.
You no longer have a naturally aspirated V-6 as the standard engine for the Sierra 1500, but that’s not a bad thing by any means as the previously optional 2.7-liter turbo-four that produces 310 horsepower and 348 lb.-ft. of torque is now the standard unit. The next engine option is a tried and trusted 5.3-liter V-8 that you can upgrade the Pro, SLE and Elevation versions of the Sierra 1500 Limited to and this one puts out 355 horsepower and 383 lb.-ft. of torque. The 5.3-liter V-8 is also standard with SLT and Denali trim levels. That standard 5.3 in the SLT, AT4 and Denali versions of the Sierra can itself be upgraded to the most powerful engine on offer, which is a 6.2-liter V-8 that pumps out a massive 420 horsepower and 460 lb.-ft. of torque. A 3.0-liter inline-six turbodiesel is the final engine option, and this one has 277 horsepower and 460 lb.-ft. of torque to offer as the standard unit for the AT4 and as an option for all other versions of the Sierra 1500 Limited.
Whatever power your engine produces is sent to the rear or all four wheels through an eight-speed or 10-speed automatic transmission, and which one you get depends on the engine you specify for your new 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 Limited.
The 2022 Sierra 1500 Limited, including at the entry-level, looks and feels a little more premium than its rivals. Although it’s rated to tow up to 13,000 pounds and even boasts a best-in-class horsepower rating for a light-duty diesel truck, power and capability are only two elements of what makes the Sierra such a fantastic half-ton truck. It may be a truck that’s available with the world’s first six-function Multipro Tailgate, an industry-first carbon-fiber composite bed, and a first-in-class available head-up display and rear camera mirror, but comfort, style, luxury and the latest tech are also very much on the menu here.
You can take practicality and capability for granted with the Sierra, but make sure you check out all the other great features it has to offer such as high-quality interiors that can put some luxury sedans to shame, connectivity technology that always keeps you in touch when you’re on the go, and trailering technology that makes even a novice tower feel like a pro.
The 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 Limited could mislead you with its name because there’s nothing at all limited about this sensational truck and what it can do and be.
