The 2022 GMC Acadia is a midsize crossover SUV that can seat up to seven people across three rows of seats, although it does come as a six-seater with a pair of second-row captains chairs in its standard form for extra space and luxury if you don’t need that extra seat. The Acadia comes close to the convenience and capability of a minivan but in a much more stylish and desirable package, and with the added capability of AWD for those harsh winter conditions in Yellowknife and the surrounding areas.
There are four trim levels and two drivetrains for buyers to choose between in the 2022 GMC Acadia lineup. The first of the trim levels is the SLE which is front-wheel-drive in its standard form but can be upgraded with all-wheel-drive if you prefer. Next up is the superb value for money SLT trim level which is followed by the rugged-looking AT4, and finally, the top-of-the-range Denali that takes luxury and opulence to another level. The entry-level SLE is the only version of the Acadia that’s available in a front-drive format as the other three trim levels are all standard all-wheel-drive.
It’s not uncommon these days for vehicles like the Acadia to only be offered with a single powertrain but there are two engine options to choose between here. The standard powerplant under the hood of the SLE and SLT trim levels is a thoroughly contemporary 2.0-litre turbo-four that develops 228 horsepower and 258 lb.-ft. of torque. And this engine sends its power to the Acadia’s front or all four wheels through a nine-speed automatic transmission. A more powerful unit is available in the shape of a 3.6-litre V-6 which then provides the Acadia with 310 horsepower and 271 lb.-ft. of torque and is once again mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission. The top speed is an estimated 131 mpg and a V-6-equipped Acadia can get you from 0 to 60mph in just 6.1 seconds, while the maximum towing capacity is a pretty impressive 1,814kg (4,000 pounds).
You can go for an Acadia Denali and load it up with options and it’s fair to say the MSRP will be fairly substantial, but it’s definitely worth checking out all the Acadia trim levels because there’s no such thing as a sparsely-equipped 2022 GMC Acadia. Even the entry-level SLE comes with 18-inch alloy wheels, Driver Convenience Package, a hands-free power programmable liftgate, LED headlights, six-speaker audio system, front and rear park assist, an HD Rear vision camera, heated front seats, tri-zone automatic climate control and an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility.
All 2022 Acadia models also come very generously equipped with standard safety features such as Automatic Emergency Braking, Forward Collision Alert, Front Pedestrian Braking, Lane Change Alert with Side Blind Zone Alert, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, and plenty more.
The 2022 GMC Acadia is a midsize crossover SUV that on one hand appears to check all the luxury boxes, but on the other hand, it doesn’t come with the kind of price ticket you expect from a vehicle of this quality, style, capability, and stature.
