“Godson” Celebrates 10 Years of Success at Yellowknife Motors

A photo of Aaron "Godson" Hernandez performing live.

Aaron “Godson” Hernandez can seemingly do it all! He’s a prolific recording hip hop artist, dropping 11 albums over three decades of performing, has appeared on some of Canada’s most popular television shows, and has been formally recognized by Queen Elizabeth II with one of the monarch’s Diamond Jubilee Medals. That same drive and commitment to success in his performing life have also pushed Hernandez to excel on all fronts throughout his decade of work at Yellowknife Motors. Let’s take a look at some of Aaron’s credits while we congratulate him on 10 years of success with the dealership.

Where Has Godson Appeared?

We know him as Aaron around the halls of Yellowknife Motors. But his Godson persona has performed across North America, including a show at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, representing the Northwest Territories. Some of Godson’s other media credits include:

  • EMI record deal finalist
  • Season four Canadian Idol performer
  • Family Feud on CBC
  • Dragon's Den on CBC

Godson’s Connection with the Community

While Godson is always making sure the dance floor is full of people having fun through his deejaying, his community involvement goes well beyond that. Godson is well-connected with the younger generation. He frequently takes part in writing and performance workshops all over the north with young people interested in music and building self-confidence.

Godson also connects with his community through sports. He’s very active in the Yellowknife Philippine Basketball League and recently received the 2026 Sportsmanship Award. Godson also formed our first co-ed volleyball team, the Ruff Ryder, which placed first at the Winter Co-Ed League tournament in the Yellowknife Volleyball Association. Sports are a passion his family shares as well. His daughter Selena plays volleyball, and his son Tyson plays basketball. Both of his kids have represented the Northwest Territories at the Canada Summer Games and Arctic Winter Games.

Facing Challenges With Positivity

For as much success as Aaron has created for himself, he is equally no stranger to overcoming one of life’s biggest challenges. Aaron was diagnosed with a rare form of T-Cell lymphoma in 2024. The disease had already progressed to stage IV by the time it was diagnosed, requiring a medevac flight from Yellowknife to Edmonton. The same determination that made Hernandez a success helped him overcome a difficult fight with cancer.

Everyone at Yellowknife Motors is proud to work with Aaron and call him a friend. If you would like to work with him on finding yourself a new or pre-owned vehicle, make an appointment today.
